Valerie Nicholas retired early from the Federal Government with 20 years of federal service. During that time, she served two former Presidential Appointees under the Clinton Administration, where she originally came on board as a White House Appointee. Prior to that, she worked in several roles on the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee (Aviation Subcommittee), where former Senator John C. Danforth was the Ranking Member. When he announced his retirement she worked as a personal aide to a former Congresswoman.
Valerie was born and raised in Roanoke, Virginia. Witnessing her mother’s death when she was only nine years old foretold the traumatic path that her life would follow; and Valerie was never the same. By the time she was 18 years old, she had already encountered physical and sexual abuse. By her 21st birthday, her father was blind, diabetic, and a double amputee. Doing everything she could to hide a series of abusive relationships that started as a teenager, she managed to care for her father, while working full time as a nursing assistant in a local nursing home facility. Her father died some years later. After accepting a position with a Federal agency in 1986, Valerie moved to Washington D.C. with only $4.73 to her name.

Over a number of years, she went from one abusive relationship to the next; she became an expectant mother, but a short time later experienced the death of her unborn child due to repeated abuse. Since recovering from surgery, her aspirations have become an unshakeable commitment. Valerie was determined to make a better life for herself. Her commitment to helping the sick and mentoring individuals who are or have been subjected to domestic violence has sprung from her own personal experiences. She has established a non-profit organization that helps others who have become victims of violence, as well as, educating the public about the dangers of domestic violence, depression, low self-esteem, rejection and codependency.
Valerie is a mentor and an active member in her church. She also volunteers her time in the community. She is a graduate of the Senior Executive Fellows Program at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In addition, she plans to study abroad for a short time at Oxford University in England. Valerie is a recipient of numerous community service awards and has since started to write her first book to help inspire and encourage victims of domestic violence to seek the help they both need and deserve.
